Description

How to negotiate with debt collectors
VisualEconomics.com

A debt collection attempt can obliterate your credit report, making it very difficult to get credit or loans, and effecting rates you might get. You can alleviate these blights on your credit by having the debt collectors delete these entries or having them report these as "Paid" or "Current."

Before you pay off your account it's a very good idea to negotiate with the debt collector to have your credit report fixed. After all, you can't end up worse off then than you are now. So give them a call, and before you make payment, make sure you get an agreement in writing verifying what they are willing to do.
